Calls for local Covid lockdown measures to be introduced

A medical expert is calling for more local lockdowns in Counties where there are high number of cases of Covid-19.

The warning has been issued after the number of hospital patients with Covid-19 has increased by almost a third in the past week.

994 new cases were announced by the Department of Health last night, with 80 people in hospital and 22 in ICU.

On Monday, international travel will open for people who have been fully vaccinated, recovered from the virus or recently tested negative.

Gerry Killeen is a UCC Professor, he believes now is the time to allow only fully vaccinated people travel, while also considering a ban on intercounty travel for Covid-19 hotspots.
