New women’s U21 rugby team for Sligo

Sligo Rugby Club is introducing a new women’s Under-21 rugby team this season – as the club looks to re-establish adult women’s rugby at Hamilton Park in Strandhill.

A Connacht Rugby initiative, the new U21 league will consistof five weeks of games at U21 level between participating teams, is designed to ‘bridge the gap’ between youth rugby and adult rugby for female players in the province.

This is seen as particularly important ahead of the 2021/22 season, given many players missed the opportunity to play games during their final season at youth level due to COVID-19.

The focus will primarily be on fun and player development while still maintaining a competitive element.

Coachign for the new Sligo women’s U21 team begins on Thursday, June 10th, in Hamilton Park, Strandhill, at 7:30pm.

This is a great opportunity for women to get fitter, get faster and be stronger in a fun and safe environment.  No previous rugby experience necessary.  The club attracts players from all over Sligo, as well as Donegal , Leitrim and Roscommon .
