10-man Sligo Rovers win eventful North West Derby

Sligo Rovers have moved four points clear at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division following Friday evening’s 2-1 win against Finn Harps in Ballybofey.

Romeo Parkes gave Rovers the lead in the fifth minute – but Harps equalised straight from the re-start through Tunde Owolabi.

Tunde had several chances to put Harps in front in that first half – but he was unable to take advantage of them.

Rovers regained the lead in the second-half thanks to a fine volleyed finish from Lewis Banks.

But they were reduced to 10 players just a moment later when Parkes received a straight red card for dangerous play following a clash with Harps defender Kosovar Sadiki.

However, despite being a man down, Rovers held on for the win – although they had goalkeeper Ed McGinty to thank in injury time, as he made a miraculous save to prevent Sean Boyd from netting a late equaliser.
