Deputy Harkin urges the government to consider regional restrictions



A Sligo Leitrim TD is calling on the government to consider regional restrictions in the fight against Covid-19.

 

Independent TD Marian Harkin made calls after 11 local election areas including two in Leitrim recorded less than five cases of the virus during the past 14 days.

 

Three local electoral areas have Covid-19 incidence rates three times the national average.

 

Tullamore is the highest in the country, at 484 per 100,000 people, closely followed by Dublin’s north inner city and Longford LEA.

 

The data covers the two-week period that ended on Monday, when the country’s rate was 148.
