Covid rate decreases in most Local Electoral Areas across north west



There’s been a noticeable decrease in the 14 day incidence rate in all local electoral areas across the north west region with the exception of South Donegal.

The latest daily figures from the National Public Health Emergency Team shows 135 new cases were recorded in Co. Donegal, 24 in Sligo and less than 5 in Leitrim.

During the past 14 days, the Sligo/Strandhill area has had 189 new Covid-19 cases with a rate per 100,000 population of 894.5, that compares to 285 cases and a rate of 1,348.9 this time last week.

Sligo/Drumcliffe had 127 cases in the last 14 days with a rate of 718.5; there were 220 cases and the rate was 1,244.7 a week ago.

The figures for Ballymote/Tubbercurry was 178 new cases and an incidence rate of 665.9 compared to 238 cases and a rate of 890.4.

In the Manorhamilton area of Leitrim, there have been 57 cases in the past 14 days and a rate of 526.8; last Friday there were 83 cases and the rate was 767.

The Donegal electoral area has however seen a slight increase, there were 322 cases in the past fortnight and a rate of 1,215; there were 310 cases and the rate was 1,170.2.

There were 54,318 new cases recorded across the country in the last 14 days with a national incidence rate of 1,140.7; down from 71,286 cases and a rate of 1,497.

And according to the latest information from the HSE, as of 6.30pm last night, there were no critical care beds available in Letterkenny University Hospital while 2 were available in Sligo University Hospital.
