Harkin highlights need for domestic violence refuge centre

There are renewed calls for the provision of a dedicated domestic violence unit for the Sligo/Leitrim area.

Independent Deputy Marian Harkin raised the issue in the Dail with Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman.

She praised the previous Minister for Social Protection, Regina Doherty for the implementation of the Emergency Rent Supplement Pilot Programme and believes it should be rolled out nationally.

However, Deputy Harkin raised concern over the apparent ‘abandonment’ of the domestic violence unit within TUSLA.
