Sligo councillor calls for preservation of medieval walls

A local Councillor is calling on the local authority to preserve ancient medieval walls at two burial grounds.

Sligo/Drumcliffe Councillor, Thomas Walsh, says the boundary and gable walls at Kilross and Killery burial grounds have been neglected over the years.

The ruins at Kilross are the remains of a tower that once stood there dating back to the 13th century while it’s believed a 14th century church once stood at Killery serving Ballintogher before one was built in the village.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Councillor Walsh says it’s not only about preserving our past, there is also a health and safety concern.
