Conservation works have begun on Rosses Point Metal Man

Conservation works have begun on Sligo’s Metal Man.

€25,000 comes under the Historic Structures Fund which has been matched by Sligo County Council.

The navigation beacon at Rosses Point that was first erected in 1821 points towards Oyster Island off the coast of Sligo and has a twin Metal Man in Tramore, Co. Waterford.

Marine Painting Systems Ltd., Dedalus Architecture and RPS Sligo are carrying out the works which are expected to be completed within 2 weeks, weather permitting.

Siobhán Ryan, Heritage Officer with Sligo County Council, says the work is quite extensive and has to be carried out properly.
