MacManus calls on EU President to investigate if Hogan broke Commission’s code of conduct

A midlands north-west MEP is calling for the EU Commission President to investigate if Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan violated the Commission’s code of conduct.

It follows the Commissioner Hogan’s attendance at the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner in Clifden, Co Galway where more than 80 people were present in breach of Covid-19 rules. He had earlier left County Kildare, which was in lockdown, and was also stopped by gardai for holding his phone while driving.

Sinn Fein MEP and former Sligo councillor Chris MacManus says he has written to President Ursula Von der Leyen expressing concern at Commissioner Hogan’s actions.

Mr Manus says Commissioner Hogan may have acted in a manner that adversely affects public perception of his integrity and the dignity of his office.

Mr MacManus claims damage is being done to the public perception of the EU Commission and the EU institutions and he has called on President Von der Leyen to clarify her position on the matter with a public statement.
