Workers over 66 not entitled to Covid payments ‘ageist’

A local councillor believes that those over 66, and still working, not being entitled to a number of Covid-19 financial supports is ‘ageist’ and ‘discriminatory’.

The comments come from Sinn Fein Leitrim Councillor, Padraig Fallon.

He is calling on the government to restructure the likes of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment to include workers over 66 and the self employed.

The issue has also recently been raised by his party colleagues including Sligo/Leitrim TD, Martin Kenny.

Councillor Fallon believes the criteria for those eligible needs to be addressed urgently.
