Mixed results for car sales in north west

Counties Leitrim and Sligo have bucked the national trend when it comes to new car registrations for the first two months of this year.

While the number of new cars registered have fallen in most counties during the past two months — including by 3.85% in Donegal,  they increased by more than 17% in Leitrim and by 0.21% in Sligo.

Nationally, new electric car registrations are up 15% but further analysis reveals that while private purchases of electric vehicles, which attract a grant are up more than 30%, there’s been a reduction in company electric car purchases, where this support no longer applies.

Teresa Noone, of SIMI, has been looking at the figures for the north west.
