North West GPs left with little option on admitting patients

The President of the INMO has criticised recent figures which were published  in relation to the amount of time admitted patients spend in Hospitals.

The recently published figures claim that 30 percent of patients admitted to hospital are discharged within 24 hours or under.

Some senior doctors are claiming that this points to a substantial level of unnecessary admission of patients.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Martina Harkin Kelly says that GP’s have to take a number of factors into consideration before referring a patient to hospitals and often have no other option but to refer patients to emergency departments.
