With more heavy rain forecast, renewed farmer concern over flooding

The Irish Farmers Association claims homes could be flooded over the coming days unless immediate action is taken.

More than 100 millimetres of rain has fallen in several areas so far this month.

More heavy rainfall is predicted later this week.

Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice says it’s in situations like this that obstacles in all waterways, from the River Shannon to the smallest stream in Sligo, Donegal and Leitrim can cause major problems.

And he says water levels in Lough Allen, outside Drumshanbo, also need to be looked at.
