‘Shane a casualty of the Sinn Féin tsunami’ – John Ellis

The performance of Martin Kenny in the 2020 General Election has to be one of the stand out performances – that’s according to the former Fianna Fáil TD John Ellis.

Ellis; son Shane is contesting this election on on behalf of Fianna Fáil.

Speaking earlier to OceanFM John admitted that Shane was a victim of the ‘Sinn Fein tsunami’.

He added that the fact Kenny was sitting TD also helped to fortify his position.

With Sinn Fein enjoying a bounce nationally, the Ellis camp always expected a huge battle was in store and that prediction poved correct.

Ellis (Jnr)’s tally figures show him to be out of contention for a seat. View the election tallies here.

Ellis says that it’s looks like it will be a successful election for Fianna Fáil locally with Marc MacSharry and Eamon Scanlon on course to retain the seats which they won in 2016.

John Ellis has plenty of experience when it comes to elections and the drama that can take place in count centres.  He concluded that the destination of the final seat will be difficult to call but feels that Marian Harkin is likely to prevail at the expense of Fine Gael’s Frank Feighan.

Asked about the future for his son in politics, Ellis repled:  “things can change, today is Sinn Fein’s day but the political can change very quickly.”
