Gormley Political Dynasty ends in Sligo

Sligo has four new councillors this morning.

Three of them are in the Sligo/Drumcliffe area: they are Grange man Donal Gilroy for Fianna Fail, as well as Thomas Walsh, Ballygawley and Tom Fox from Calry, both for Fine Gael.

The fourth newcomer is Martin Connolly, from Tubbercurry, also for Fine Gael.

Another former Fine Gael councillor is making a return to the council, Gerard Mullaney, from Highwood, who lost his seat at the last local elections.

Meanwhile a major shock of the local elections in Sligo was the failure of Willie Gormley to hold the seat in south Sligo held by his late aunt, Margaret, for almost 40 years.

Afterwards, he spoke of Ocean FM.
