Sligo council permission allows Irish Water proceed on plans to upgrade Lough Talt water plant

Irish Water says it is now in a position to upgrade the Lough Talt plant.

It’s after Sligo County Council’s decision to grant planning permission to upgrade the existing water treatment plant following a recommendation by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government under the so-called IROPI process.

That allows permission be granted for work in special areas of conservation in cases of over-riding public interest.

Irish Water adds that it’s sole focus is to enable the boil water notice be lifted as quickly as possible.

It is now reviewing the conditions attached to the grant of permission.

Anthony Skeffington, from Irish Water, has been telling Ocean FM News what happens now.
