New car sales are down across the North West compared to this time last year.

Figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry shows that when compared to January – October 2017, new car sales are down by an average of 9.8% across the region.

In Donegal, sales were down by 11.57%, Leitrim saw a decrease of 12.07% while Sligo sees the smallest decrease of 5.77%, this equates to a total of 4,150 new cars bought this year so far in the region compared to 4,621 last year.

While new car sales have decreased, it appears all other areas have increased slightly such as the Light Commercial Vehicle sector increasing nationally by 5.9%, used car imports are up by 8.95% and electric vehicle sales have almost doubled, increasing by 98.5%.

Nationally new car sales are down by 4.4%
