Creed: Government committed to tackling climate change

The Minister for Agriculture says the government is committed to tackling climate change.

Minister Michael Creed has also rejected claims by An Taisce recently that he misled the Dail by downplaying the emissions figures coming from the dairy sector.

The dairy sector is one of the main offenders in agriculture when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions.

An Taisce says emissions are ‘sky-rocketing’ and a production cap is needed if dairy emissions are to be reduced.

Ireland is nowhere near achieving its 2020 target of reducing its emission by 20% reduction nevermind the 40% set by 2030.

The Minister was speaking to Ocean FM News ahead of a CAP consultation in Kildare today which he said will shape the format of the new CAP post 2020 of which Climate Change will be one of the key components.

Minister Creed says the government is committed to reaching its EU targets and no sector of the economy will be spared in its efforts to do so:
