N4 accident update: Two people taken to hospital after collision involving lorry and 3 cars

Two people have been removed to Sligo University Hospital this morning following a traffic accident involving a lorry and three cars on the N4 between Boyle and Carrick on Shannon.

It’s understood the articulated lorry jack-knifed or skidded in icy conditions, after which the three cars collided with each other.

It’s believed the injuries sustained are not serious.

The accident occurred at Woodbrook, Carrick on Shannon, near the golf course.

Gardai say the road will remain closed for a number of hours.

Emergency services are at the scene, at which there are long tailbacks of traffic.

Diversions are in place but gardai are warning motorists that not all back roads may have been gritted.

Meanwhile, there are also reports of ice on secondary routes throughout the region.

A single vehicle accident occurred this morning on the N16 at Cherrybrook, about two kilometres the Glenfarne side of Manorhamilton.

Traffic is down to one lane in that area.

Meanwhile, there are reports of slippery conditions following snowfall on the N15 around Barnsmore Gap in Donegal.

The Collooney to Coolaney road in Sligo is also reported to be slippery, as well as the rouundabouts on the N4 at Collooney.

Road conditions are also slippery in the Boyle area.
