Yeats anniversaries commemorated in Sligo



Two Yeats anniversaries were commemorated in Sligo at the weekend.

The 79th anniversary of the death of W B Yeats was marked on Sunday evening with a celebration of his works through poetry, musicand song in Drumncliffe Church, beside where the Nobel Prize-winning poet is buried.

The commemoration was organised by the Cos Cos Festival with Drumcliffe/Rathcormac Tidy Towns and Drumcliffe Church of Ireland parish.

This year is also the 50th anniversary of the death of Yeats’s wife, Georgina.

Among those at the weekend’s event were 56 students from Notre Dame College in the U.S., who came to Sligo for the 25th Yeats Winter School.

Meanwhile, a number of interesting Yeats items from a private donor are now on display in the The Model in Sligo, as the honorary president of the Yeats Society, Martin Enright, has been telling Ocean FM:
