Sligo County Council hopes that money will be allocated to the Western Distributor Road in Sligo later this month.
The Department of Transport is due to announce the annual allocations for specific local projects and for regional and local roads at the end of January.
The Council is currently finalising the tender documentation for the route which would be an important link between the N4 and the Finisklin Industrial estate area.
