2018 to be the ‘Year of Sligo Gaol’



2018 will be the Year of Sligo Gaol.

It’s to mark the bicentenary of the opening of the jail in 1818.

It’s also a hundred years since Michael Collins was imprisoned there.

The building is now owned by Sligo County Council.

At yesterday’s meeting of the council, Director of Services Dorothy Clarke says a document is now being compiled on how the gaol could be developed as a flagship project for the region.
