Sligo Councillor says Capital of Volunteering year has boosted the local economy



A Sligo Councillor is defending the investment of having Sligo as the ‘Capital of Volunteering’ this year.

Questions have been raised as to what this honour has gained for Sligo and the North West.

Today, Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan will attend the closing ceremony where a spectacular light show will mark the end of the year.

Independent Alliance Councillor Marie Casserly has been involved in this year’s events.

She says alot of events took place in Sligo this year because of its status and it has contributed to the local economy:
