Sinn Fein calls for more investment in the public ambulance fleet

The nearest ambulance not always being deployed to an emergency incident is one of the key flaws in the service that needs to be addressed.

Martin Kenny has made the comments after Sinn Fein launched a campaign calling for increased funding for ambulances this week.

Deputy Kenny says there’s a need for more staff, ambulances and better technology, as well as less use of private ambulances which he claims the HSE has spent over €25m on in the past five years alone.

He says people working in the service will confirm that the nearest ambulance is not necessarily the ambulance that’s used, with the result that some times people are waiting over an hour.
