In Sligo, signs being erected to discourage parking in disabled spaces

A number of signs will be erected at disabled parking spaces across Sligo town this morning, in an effort to encourage able-bodied motorists to avoid parking in spaces reserved for disabled drivers.

The initiative will see A4 sized signs with the words ‘Take My Space, Take My Disability’ placed beside disabled parking spaces in the town.

It is hoped that the initiative will be moved to areas outside of the town in the near future.

The signs are being erected by the Roads Department of Sligo County Council and the move is being spear-headed by local disabilities campaigner Dee Gillen.

Welcoming the move, Independent Councillor Marie Casserly, who is backing the campaign, praised Dee’s involvement in the project.
