Focus Ireland concerned over rising rents



Average rent prices have increased by 12% in just 12 months in County Sligo.

It currently costs an average of €644 to rent in the county, an increase of 12% in just 12 months, according to a Daft.ie report.

The minimum increase seen is 8.5%

The average cost for renting a two-bed house is standing at €539, which is an increase of 12.6% compared to this time last year.

Focus Ireland Sligo Manager, Mary Jameson, said ‘there is a shortage of affordable accommodation all over the county’.

She adds: ‘There needs to a much wider range of Government actions taken to protect tenants and keep them in their homes.’

Speaking to Ocean FM News, she says it’s expensive to rent in the town or in the county.
