Bishop prays for victims at Mass in Lourdes

The two men who died following a fire in Sligo Town overnight were remembered during a Mass in Lourdes today.

The Bishop of the Diocese of Elphin, Kevin Doran, who is currently in Lourdes, dedicated a Mass at the French Marian Shrine to the victims of the fire which occurred some time before 5am this morning.

The men — a father in his 60s and his son who’s in his 30s — were pronounced dead at Sligo University Hospital where they were taken following the fire which occurred in the building they were in at Market Street in Sligo.

The two who died are from a well-known local family.

Market Street has reopened to traffic this afternoon but the three-storey building where the fire occurred remains cordoned off.

Speaking to Ocean FM News from Lourdes, Bishop Doran offered his condolences to the bereaved family.
