Leitrim Councillor urges retention of MABS and CIS structures



A Leitrim councillor says plans to regionalise the Citizens Information and the Money Advice and Budgeting services as ‘one of the most outrageous ever made.’

In this region, the organisations have offices in Donegal Town, in Sligo, and in Ballinamore in Leitrim.

Under proposed changes, local offices would come under a regional structure.

The proposal is the latest in a trend which sees more regionalisation of county-based services, an example having been the VECs amalgamation into the education and training boards covering a number of counties.

But the Cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council, Fianna Fail Councillor Mary Bohan, says local access is vital for services like Citizens Information and MABS as people who look for their offices are in need of help:
