Illegal dumping taking council resources away from other needs

The Cathaoirleach of the Ballymote/Tubbercurry Municipal District says continued illegal dumping across Sligo is taking funding away from where it would be much better spent.

Fine Gael councillor Dara Mulvey highlighted the build up of illegal dumping at Ranaghan near Coolaney as an example of somewhere that needs to be cleaned up.

Senior roads engineer with the council Paddy Hughes told  Councillor Mulvey that until a litter warden is appointed in South Sligo there are no guarantees as to when clean ups will happen.

It is hoped that the warden will be in place in the coming weeks.

Councillor Mulvey says the dumping is costing Sligo county council resources.
