Met Eireann has issued a wind warning for tonight covering a number of counties, including Leitrim, Donegal, Sligo and Mayo.
South to southeast winds are forecast to increase to gale force with gusts of up to 90 to 100 kilometres per hour expected at times.
The Road Safety Authority is urging motorists, as well as pedestrians, cyclists and motorsyclists, to be cautious.
And as Met Eireann forecaster John Eagleton tells Ocean FM News, the winds are expected to be strongest overnight.
