144 new gardai are graduated from Templemore Garda college this afternoon.
The men and women from two classes include five Sligo graduates most of whom will be posted in Letterkenny in county Donegal.
While another Leitrim graduate will be posted in Athlone after today’s ceremony.
While the vast majority are Irish citizens, 9 of the new gardai come from abroad; 5 from the UK, two from Poland, 1 from the US and 1 from Romania.
The probationer gardai will now begin phase two of their training, on the job in stations around the country.
