Donegal begin All-Ireland LGFA campaign against Waterford

Donegal senior women’s gaelic footballers begin their TG4 All-Ireland senior football championship campaign on Saturday with a trip to Birr to play Waterford in their opening group match.

The game throws in at 5pm and will be televised live by TG4.

Maxi Curran’s side are in a three-team Group D, along with Munster champions Cork.

There are 13 counties contesting the senior championship – and they are divided into four groups.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for All-Ireland quarter-finals.

To date, it’s been a season of near misses for Donegal in league and championship.

They lost out narrowly to Meath in the Division 1 national league final – and were beaten by a single point by Armagh in a thrilling Ulster final last month.

Their second game against Cork on Sunday week (June 19th) will be played in Clane, Co Kildare at 2pm.

Defending champions Meath begin their title defence in Group B this Saturday away to Monaghan.
