VIDEO: Man appears in Sligo court on two murder charges, causing serious harm to another



A twenty-two years old man has appeared before Sligo District Court this evening charged with the murder of two men in Sligo Town and causing serious harm to another.

Yousef Palani, with an address of 10 Markievicz Heights, Sligo, has been remanded in custody to appear again before Sligo District Court, via video link, on April 21st.

He is charged with murdering Aidan Moffitt on April 10th last at No 4 Cartron Heights, Sligo; murdering Michael Snee on April 12th at No 24 City View Apartments, Connaughton Road, Sligo; and with recklessly causing serious harm to Anthony Burke on April 9th last at Cleveragh, Sligo.

A large crowd gathered outside the courthouse this afternoon as the accused was taken in a police vehicle the short distance from Sligo Garda Station across the road to the courthouse.

At the request of the accused’s solicitor Mr Gerard McGovern, Judge Sandra Murphy directed that Palani be given all medical assistance necessary.

It was after Mr McGovern asked the court that the accused be put on suicide watch by the prison service and that he be immediately assessed by a psychiatrist.

Legal aid was also granted.
