With crosses erected, awareness grew of danger of old N4 road

A major turning point in raising awareness of the dangers of the old N4 road between Castlebaldwin and Collooney was the erection by local people of 31 white crosses in memory of those who had died in accidents along the route.

Liam Brennan, who lives along the the old road, made the crosses.

He and others put them up.

Today, as the new road is officially opened, he recalled the sensitivity and respect with which they went about the job, one that eventually became a turning point in the N4 Action Group’s campaign.
