Parents & Schools must educate teenagers on cyber safety

A Sligo Councillor and teacher is calling on parents and schools to be more aware of the dangers that exist online for teenagers.

The comments were made after gardai confirmed that they are investigating an online blackmail scam involving intimate images shared by three teenage boys.

Sligo Drumcliff Independent Councillor Marie Casserly  says there are currently programmes in schools to raise awareness of the dangers, however, she added that it’s vital that teachers and parents talk to children about the dangers that exist online.
