Garda Commissioner has questions to answer in relation to unanswered emergency calls



The Garda Commissioner will appear before the Policing Authority today and be questioned about thousands of unanswered emergency calls.

 

An internal inquiry has been conducted into the gardai’s failure to respond to domestic violence calls in 2019 and 2020.

 

Drew Harris will brief the authority on the progress of the review today.

 

A Sligo Leitrim TD says he is awaiting with great interest the answers that the Garda Commissioner Drew Harris will provide in relation to the claims.

 

Deputy Kenny raised the matter back in May and requested the Commissioner to appear before the Justice committee to answer questions.

 

The Sinn Fein Spokesperson on justice and equality has expressed his concern that a large number of 999 calls were allegedly canceled by members of An Garda Síochána, including 1,000 priority 1 calls relating to domestic violence, assault, or burglary.
