FARMING: Grants for sea food businesses; soil sampling pilot programme launched

Minister for Agriculture and Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue has today announced a further €1.1m in grants for 19 seafood businesses.

This will bring the total amount for the sector to almost €3m, with 44 aquaculture projects being invested in, 13 of which are in Co. Donegal.

The funds are granted under Sustainable Aquaculture Grant Scheme and the Seafood Processing Capital Investment Scheme.

Soil sampling

Also in farming news this evening, a new pilot soil sampling and analysis programme has been launched.

The €10m investment aims to measure a baseline nationally for soil carbon levels, health and fertility.

It’s hoped these aims will be at the centre of any future agricultural model for the nation.

Minister McConalogue says the nation’s soil will play an important role in meeting our water, air, climate and biodiversity goals.
