Quarries should contribute to Defective Concrete Blocks Grant Scheme.

A Sligo Councillor has called for the quarries responsible for selling defective blocks  which has led to problems with Mica and Pyrite to be held responsible for a percentage of the costs accumulated to repair the damage.

A national scheme aimed at covering the remedial costs covers 90% of the damages with home owners left to cover the balance.

A number of protests to highlight the situation will take place next weekend in Donegal and Ballina.

Independent Sligo Councillor Michael Clarke says he expects that there be people from Sligo attending the protest in Ballina.

The Ballymote Tubbercurry independent Councillor says there are significant costs involved in repairing many of the houses and the quarries that sold the defective blocks should contribute to the repair costs.
