Tributes paid to former Sligo Cathaoirleach Patsy Barry

The death has occurred of the former north Sligo councillor, Patsy Barry, from Grange.

The Fianna Fail representative took his seat on the council in the late 1990s in succession to the late Grange-based councillor and senator, Willie Farrell..

In 2005, Cllr Barry was elected as Cathaoirleach, or chairman, of the council, following the late Cllr Margaret Gormley in the role.

Cllr Barry served on the council until 2014.

He was also a publican and auctioneer.

Current Grange Fianna Fail Councillor Donal Gilroy remembers the late Cllr Barry and his contribution to north Sligo.
