New Covid walk-in test centre opens in Convoy

A new Covid-19 walk-in test centre is opening in Co Donegal today.

The centre – located in the Donegal GAA Centre of Excellence in Convoy – will operate until Monday from 11am to 7pm.

A second walk in centre will open at the Carndonagh GAA club house on Tuesday and run until Thursday.

The 14-day incidence rate of the disease in Donegal is 268 per 100,000 residents, compared to the national average of 129.

The Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan People are being urged not to rely on antigen tests before meeting up next week.

The easing of restrictions on Monday allows 3 households to meet outdoors in groups of up to 6.

The “vaccine bonus” also takes effect – meaning fully vaccinated people can meet unvaccinated people from one household indoors.

The CMO has warned people not to buy antigen tests on sale in supermarkets due to concerns over how reliable they are.

Dr Ray Walley from the GP Expert Advisory Group on Covid says those test kits shouldn’t be relied on:
