Safety works needed on R290 according to local councillor

A Sligo councillor is calling on the county council to apply for funding under the 2021 Roads Programme for work on the R290 road that goes through Ballintogher, Ballygawley and Collooney.

Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy says there are severe bends and poor sight lines on the road, with large vehicles such as trucks and buses often unable to pass each other when they meet.

He says local people, including farmers, have been very cooperative when it came to works that have already been done on the road.

But he insists there is now a need for bigger works and for funding.
