New research, conducted for the Financial Services Union, found the rate is above 90 per cent for over-65s.
The union says the sector is in ‘turmoil’ – with Ulster Bank leaving the Republic, and Bank of Ireland closing a number of branches locally in towns such as Ballymote, Tubbercurry, Bundoran, Manorhamilton and Drumshanbo. More than 100 branches of Bank of Ireland will across the Country.
