Efforts continue to establish a new technological university

Efforts to establish a new technological university for the region are continuing with the presidents of three third-level colleges having resumed onsite, face-to-face meetings for the first time since the Covid-19 enforced shutdown.

The presidents of Letterkenny IT, IT Sligo, and Galway/Mayo Institute of Technology had been meeting weekly online for the past six months.

The colleges form the Connacht Ulster Alliance, which plans to make a formal submission in December to become a technological university

The president of IT Sligo, Dr Brendan McCormack, has been speaking to our reporter Harry Keaney about the start of a new college year . . . and the ambitious project of establishing a top, multi-campus technological university.
