A Sligo/Leitrim TD is raising concerns about a proposal of a new three-strike law in relation to drugs for personal use.
The aim is to treat addiction as a health problem instead of a legal issue by first referring someone to a health professional and on the third strike, going through the courts as normal.
Sinn Fein TD for Sligo/Leitrim Martin Kenny is welcoming the news as a positive first step.
However, he is raising concerns over the finer details of the proposal.
