Renewed concerns over fracking



There’s renewed concern in the Leitrim/Fermanagh area over fracking.

 

It’s after the Tamboran company applied to the Department of the Economy in Northern Ireland for a petroleum licence covering an area to the west of Upper Lough Erne and to the south of Lower Lough Erne.

 

Tamboran had previously tried unsuccessfully to engage in fracking in the Leitrim/Fermanagh area.

 

Fracking is now outlawed in the Republic of Ireland following a bill brought before the Dáil by outgoing Fine Gael TD Tony McLoughlin.

 

Jamie Murphy, an Independent election candidate in the Manorhamilton area, has been a volunteer with and former secretary of the anti-fracking group Love Leitrim.

 

He says they were always aware of the need to remain vigilant about fracking:
