Outgoing councillor warns about complacency on coastal erosion

A Sligo councillor is warning against complacency when it comes to dealing with erosion along the coast.

Outgoing Fine Gael Councillor Hubert Keaney, who is not seeking reelection, says serious decisions will have to be made in coming years to deal with what is not longer a threat but a reality that’s here.

He raised the issue at a recent meeting of councillors from Sligo Municipal District, after having noticed the changes that have taken place at Rosses Point beach due to erosion.

Cllr Keaney says this is also an issue that needs to be taken into consideration in relation to the design and building of the new Surf Centre at Strandhill.
