Donegal TD calls on Údarás na Gaeltachta to recognise unions

An Independent Donegal TD is calling on Údarás na Gaeltachta to make it a condition that companies must recognise its workers’ union membership before they can access grants.

Deputy Pringle made the comments after statistics released showed 156 new jobs were created in the Donegal Gaeltacht in 2018.

There are 2,278 jobs in Údarás na Gaeltachta client companies in Donegal, the highest number of jobs since 2008.

He says appropriate conditions need to be attached to the jobs being created and employers need to recognise union membership.

Deputy Pringle says he intends to raise the issue with the Minister in the Dáil shortly and will seek commitments from Fine Gael for a prioritisation of workers’ rights in Donegal.
