The views and opinions of the public are being sought for another two weeks on proposals for a major road project in west Sligo.
It’s for part of the N59 that runs from Ballisodare to Ballina.
Six possible routes are currently on the table for a proposed new four-and-a-half kilometre section of the N59 from Corhownagh to near Beltra.
The route, which has a number of severe turns, is a busy commuter road to and from West Sligo, as well as being a key part of the Wild Atlantic Way.
A public consultation period for the proposed routes runs until November 13th.
Emer Concannon, senior engineer in the National Roads Project Office, says all of the maps and information are on display at Sligo County Council’s offices at Riverside in Sligo, at the Roads Design Office in the Market Yard in Sligo, and on the council’s wb site.
Following the consultation period, the engineering, economic and environmental aspects of the proposed routes will be considered.
It’s then expected the number of proposed routes will be cut, with hopes that a preferred route will emerge by the second half of 2019.
It’s believed that the entire project will cost in the region of €15m.
