Budget Betting Tax could close North West Bookies

The Government’s proposal to increase the betting tax by 100% could lead to significant job losses in the counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

That’s according to Donegal Bookmarker Thomas McBride.

Mr McBride who runs four betting shops locally and employs 20 people says that if the tax increase goes ahead as planned at the start of January it will result in a number of bookies going out of business.

The Donegal Businessman has been telling Ocean FM’s Grace Larkin that the Government need to rethink the decision to increase the betting tax.
