National Day of Commemoration ceremony taking place in Sligo today

Sligo County Council will host a ceremony in honour of the National Day of Commemoration later today.

The event takes place at City Hall at 1.30pm to remember the Irish men and women who died in past wars or on service with the United Nations.

The annual event is hosted on the Sunday nearest to July 11th, the anniversary of the date in 1921 when a truce was signed to end the Irish War of Independence.

Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Fianna Fáil’s Martin Baker is encouraging people to come out and show their support.
